I'm going to share what I've learned, Cliff Notes Version...
1) Curriculum for an 8th Grader... Keep in mind, I have spent hours and hours on this! This is what I have chosen. (I'm also a certified teacher, K-8th grade in Texas)
Base Curriculum: My Father's World: Exploring Countries and Cultures
Language Arts: 2 Progeny Press Study Guides and Books to go along with it, Applications of Grammar, and Writing Strands, Spelling Power
Math: Teaching Textbooks: PreAlgebra....I am SO excited about this program!
Science: Apologia: Exploring Creation with General Science
2nd Language: Spanish: Immersion Spanish
Music: Introduction to Bach
MY TIMELINE TO DATE:
1) Order Curriculum
2) Join Texas Homeschool Coalition (THSC).
3) Join a local Homeschool Coop
4) Send Certified Letter to formal school notifying them about homeschooling. The THSC gives you a sample letter to use as reference.
5) We joined a 4H club. The 4H club offers so many wonderful programs...he is excited about the shooting sports club!
FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL:
1st Week of School will include:
Setting long term goals and short term goals with student, Create school calendar for year.
Testing. I plan on using last year's state wide test just to see where he is starting out at. We will repeat this at the end of the school year.
