For Mom:
1) Two Tank/Boxer PJ sets that are dark (won't show stains in case you leak) The first night I would recommend wearing the hospital gown and then the rest of the time, wear your own pj's.
2) Going home clothes: smaller maternity pants and a top that has a stretchy neck so you can pull it down for breastfeeding.
3) Your own pads (the ones they give you are the size of depends)
4) Toiletries: Hair Brush, Travel Shampoo/Conditioner/Soap/Shaving Creme/Shaver/Lotion
(The last day you are there, you will want to make sure you have a moment to take a good shower)
5) Breast Pads...no particular ones, they are all basically the same. I would NOT get the silicone ones that stop your milk from leaking...you want your breast to flow as much as possible for milk production)
6) A VERY stretchy bra...again, you don't want it to be tight because that could affect how much milk you make. The looser the better...
7) Breast Gel Pads made by Medela (They sell them at Target for $15...worth every penny and more) These are God Sent for when your nipples start to ache...and believe me, they will!!
For Baby:
1) Three sleepers (make sure they are newborn or even Preemie) My children were all 7.5-8 lbs and all of them fit perfectly into Preemie clothes that first week.
2) Swaddler Pampers-Newborn or Preemie
3) Bows and name bracelet if a girl!
4) Going Home Outfit, shoes, and blanket
5) Camera and Camcorder
6) List of people to contact
7) CarSeat (We are Peg Perego enthusiasts all the way)
Misc:
1) Viacord Box (We did this with both of our last babies...would highly recommend!)
2) Games: Uno or Card Games
3) Some Bubbly and plastic glasses for celebrating!
4) Lollipops for during labor. The sugar helps out too!
5) Chapstick for during labor...lips get really dry!
6) Photo of baby from sonogram...really helps you focus and think about the cutie that's on his/her way!
